PUERTO BOLIVAR HINTERLAND

1. The Puerto Bolivar hinterland is determined for the origin points and destination, inside the national territory, of the load managed through the port and mobilized by the net of terrestrial transport toward the interior of the country. The geographical location of the port determines to the southern region of the country like the natural area of influence including to the counties of Azuay, Cañar, Loja, Zamora Chinchipe, Morona Santiago and El Oro, so much for export products like for those of import.

2. The Guayaquil Port, only at 182km of distance, is the main competitor of Puerto Bolívar disputing with Puerto Bolívar the import load like of export of the area of influence of this port.

3. The load that enters that it goes by that port going to the counties, it is distributed in their biggest part in the Guayas county, with 73% of the total, continued by the Pichincha county with around 22% and to the Austro counties with 3%.

The load toward the El Oro County is transported mainly by Puerto Bolivar port while the load toward the other counties comes from the Guayaquil Port.

6. Puerto Bolivar mobilized, the 2001 1.567.099 Tons, for the 2000 mobilize 23% of the total of the load of export of the four commercial ports. The product of more important export that goes by Puerto Bolivar is the banana tree (93% of the total load), reason for why it is frequently mentioned as banana port.
